Meadowmat for Birds and Bees is a pre-grown wild flower matting that takes the worry out of establishing wild flowers in your garden or landscaping project. The plants and flowers in this wildflower mat have been specially selected to give a long flowering period and some winter interest. Species are especially rich in pollen and nectar to support honey bees, solitary bees, bumblebees and other pollinating insects. In winter, the architectural seed heads will look amazing (especially on frosty mornings) and they'll provide food for birds. (Please note: If you are ordering over 30m² of MeadowMat please allow for an extra 2 day lead time in your delivery plan.) Wild flowers are notoriously difficult to establish from seed or from plug plants. Conditions need to be just right and many an attempt at making an area of wild flower meadow has led to disappointment. Meadowmat for Birds and Bees comes to you with at least 75% coverage of wild grasses and flowering plants already growing strongly and ready to root into your prepared soil. These will very quickly establish into a lush sward. The plants are grown from seed on to a thin layer of growing medium that is supported by a fine net. Meadowmat for Birds and Bees is not the same as wild flower turf, the roots are not disturbed during harvest and transportation, so once laid onto prepared soil, it will very quickly form a healthy sward of mixed wild flowers. About MeadowMat Meadowmat for Birds and Bees is grown in around 20mm of growing medium supported by a mesh netting. It prefers well drained, poor quality soils and we recommend that it is laid on to our specially sourced low fertility soil. This product is normally supplied in rolls that cover an area 1m wide by 2m long. It is a perishable product and must be laid within 8 hours of delivery. Once laid you should keep your Meadowmat moist until it is established. Your Meadowmat will have been mown short before delivery to help keep it in good condition during transit. Once laid you can let it grow long. It is low maintenance, you only need to cut once a year - in early spring. Use a mower, scythe or strimmer; cut back to 50-75mm and remove the clippings....they make very good compost. If desired you can mow pathways through your Meadowmat. It is also pefect for use on any banking.
